SIZE

The Calathea Flamestar is a stunning houseplant that belongs to the Marantaceae family. It's a member of the Calathea genus, known for its vibrant foliage and distinctive patterns. The most striking feature of the Calathea Flamestar is its leaves. They are large, broad, and elongated, with a lanceolate (spear-shaped) form. The leaf surface is a rich, deep green with a unique, fiery red or pinkish undersurface that contrasts beautifully with the upper side. The vibrant red or pink color can sometimes have a gradient effect, transitioning from a deeper hue near the central vein to a lighter shade toward the edges.

The plant itself is typically medium-sized, with leaves that can reach lengths of 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) and widths of about 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm). The overall height of the plant can range from 12 to 24 inches (30 to 60 cm), making it a striking addition to indoor plant collections. Calathea Flamestar is a vibrant and visually captivating plant that can bring a touch of exotic beauty to any indoor space. With the right care, it can thrive and add a dynamic element to your plant collection.

 Common Problems Q&A

Brown Leaf Edges or Tips

Causes:

  • Low humidity
  • Tap water chemicals (chlorine, fluoride)
  • Underwatering

Solutions:
✅ Increase humidity (use a humidifier, pebble tray, or mist occasionally with distilled water).
✅ Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater instead of tap water.
✅ Ensure consistent watering—keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy.

Yellowing Leaves

Causes:

  • Overwatering
  • Poor drainage
  • Root rot

Solutions:
✅ Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering.
✅ Use well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes.
✅ Check for root rot—if the roots are brown/mushy, trim them and repot in fresh soil.

Crispy, Dry Leaves

Causes:

  • Low humidity
  • Too much sun exposure
  • Underwatering

Solutions:
✅ Maintain humidity above 50-60% using a humidifier or pebble tray.
✅ Move away from hot, direct sunlight.
✅ Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not soggy.

Slow or No Growth

Causes:

  • Insufficient light
  • Cold temperatures
  • Lack of nutrients

Solutions:
✅ Place in bright, indirect light.
✅ Maintain a warm temperature (65-80°F / 18-27°C).

What's more, each bag is enhanced with essential oils to deter pests and add a delightful, subtle fragrance when potting your beloved plants!

  • Lighting

Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf burn and fading of colors.

  • Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater to avoid chlorine and fluoride, which can cause leaf browning.

  • Toxicity

Non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a great choice for homes with cats and dogs.

  • Fertilization

Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks in spring and summer. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to salt buildup. No need to fertilize in fall and winter.
