The Alocasia scalprum, commonly known as the "Scalprum Elephant Ear" or "Sharp Alocasia," is an eye-catching and exotic houseplant that adds a touch of drama to any space. Native to Southeast Asia, this plant is a stunning member of the Alocasia family, prized for its striking, arrow-shaped leaves with an almost metallic sheen and rich green color. The leaves have prominent veins and a glossy, sculptural texture, giving it a bold, architectural look.

Typically grows to about 1-3 feet in height with a spread of 1-2 feet. The large, showy leaves can grow up to 18 inches long. Alocasia scalprum thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers high humidity. Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging.

CARE GUIDE
 Common Problems Q&A
Yellowing Leaves
  • Overwatering: Alocasias prefer moist but well-draining soil. Overwatering can lead to root rot, causing yellowing leaves. Ensure the soil dries out slightly between waterings.
  • Underwatering: Alternatively, underwatering can also cause yellowing leaves. Check if the soil is dry and adjust your watering schedule accordingly.
Leaf Dropping
  • Environmental Stress: Sudden changes in temperature or drafts can cause leaf drop. Ensure stable conditions and avoid placing the plant near heating or cooling vents.
  • Repotting Shock: Alocasias may drop leaves temporarily after repotting. Ensure proper care during this adjustment period.
Fungal Issues
  • Leaf Spot: Brown or yellow spots on leaves may indicate fungal infections. Improve air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and treat with a fungicide if necessary.
  • Root Rot: Foul odor from the soil, mushy roots, and yellowing leaves can indicate root rot. Trim affected roots and repot in fresh, well-draining soil.
