Common Problems Q&A

Curling or Wrinkled Leaves

Causes:

  • Underwatering

  • Too much direct sunlight

Solutions:
✅ Soak the plant in room-temperature water for 30-60 minutes.
✅ Increase humidity by misting more frequently.
✅ Move to indirect light if exposed to too much direct sun.

Brown, Crispy Leaf Tips

Causes:

  • Dry air (low humidity)
  • Not enough water
  • Too much direct sunlight

Solutions:
✅ Mist more often or soak more frequently.
✅ Place near a humidifier or in a more humid room (like a bathroom).
✅ Move to a shaded area with bright, indirect light.

Rotting Base or Blackened Leaves

Causes:

  • Overwatering
  • Poor air circulation
  • Water trapped in the base

Solutions:
✅ Shake off excess water after soaking to prevent water buildup.
✅ Always dry the plant upside down for at least 4 hours after watering.
✅ Improve air circulation—place near a fan or open space.

Leaves Turning Yellow or Pale

Causes:

  • Too much direct sunlight
  • Sunburn
  • Nutrient deficiency

Solutions:
✅ Move to bright, indirect light—avoid direct sun exposure.
✅ Mist occasionally to keep leaves hydrated.
✅ Fertilize once a month with a diluted air plant fertilizer.

White Fuzzy Coating on Leaves

Causes:

  • Trichomes (natural plant feature)—Not a problem!
  • Mold (if plant is staying too wet)

Solutions:
✅ If the plant is healthy, the white fuzz is normal and helps absorb moisture.
✅ If mold, improve air circulation and dry properly after watering.

MIST IT REAL GOOD!

Misting effortlessly raises the humidity around your houseplants, creating a nurturing environment that mimics their natural rainforest habitat.

  • Lighting

Air plants need bright, indirect light. Best placed near a window (east or south-facing is ideal). Avoid direct sunlight, which can dry them out too quickly. Fluorescent grow lights can be used if natural light is insufficient. Ideal Placement: Near a bright window but away from direct sun exposure.

  • Watering

Soak air plants in room-temperature water for 20-30 minutes once a week. Shake off excess water after soaking to prevent rot. Mist 1-2 times per week between soakings, especially in dry climates. Increase watering in hot, dry environments and decrease in humid areas.

  • Toxicity

Non-toxic to pets and humans. Safe for cats, dogs, and small animals. Tip: Keep out of reach of curious pets to prevent damage.

  • Fertilization

Use a diluted air plant or bromeliad fertilizer once a month. Fertilizing encourages blooming and pup growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can burn the plant. Alternative: Use an orchid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
